Battlefields Trip

Posted on: October 16th 2019

October saw our Year 9 historians embarking on their annual battlefield trip. The trip gives students a chance to see their learning in the classroom in a real life context. An insight into the events of the First World War allows students to understand more easily the sheer scale and the sacrifice involved. Students were able to visit the Ypres Salient and the Somme region. They visited the cemeteries of; Lijssenhoek, Essex Farm, Langemark and Tyne Cot, the memorials of; Thiepval, Newfoundland Park, Vimy Ridge and the Menin Gate. Plus they got the chance to visit a real trench at Sanctuary Wood and the museum of Flanders Fields.  For a spot of relaxation, they even went bowling!

A fabulous time was had by all! Everyone returned feeling a bit tired but thoroughly enthused. Staff were also delighted to have enjoyed the company of such a fantastic group of students!
