Cats the Musical G&T Dance

Posted on: December 14th 2015

Having visited the Blackpool Opera house in July 2015 to see the touring show ‘Cats the Musical’, the G+T dance group chose three pieces that they would develop for this year’s school production. Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats – on which the musical CATS is based – was written by T S Eliot during the 1930’s. With a little adaptation Andrew Lloyd Webber used Eliot’s poems as lyrics and set them to music to create the musical CATS. Pupils researched the dances, costume and makeup design and were assisted by Sue Greenstreet in making their costumes for the three pieces:

The Jellicle Ball; shows a gathering of street cats, and we are introduced to their different personalities and all of their unique qualities and differences.

Memory: As the cats settle down for the evening we are introduced to Grizabella the glamour cat. She recalls her Memory of how things used to be when she was younger.

Macavity: An insight into the villainous life of ‘Macavity’. The cats sing of what they know of Macavity, whose evil deeds have resulted in his being dubbed ‘the Napoleon of crime’.
