About Us

WHAT DO WE DO?

SGS PTA is a registered charity whose primary role is to raise money to help the School provide materials, resources and facilities for the benefit of everyone who uses the School. Last academic year we raised £7,500 for the School and our first event - a Car Boot Sale on 16th October 2011 - raised over £1080! Additionally, the PTA provides many opportunities for parents to meet and socialise with each other - either through participation in the various events we organise, or through attendance at meetings and active involvement in the planning and running of our fundraising activities.

We also support the School by serving refreshments at a number of concerts and open evenings. Money raised in the past has been used to purchase curtains for the main hall, to contribute to the climbing wall and to help pay for the new student service area away from the main entrance lobby. This year we are raising money to improve facilities for the Music & Performing Arts Department.

TARGETS 2011

There are currently two ongoing projects at Sale Grammar School which SGS PTA is raising money to fund.
These are:

(1) To provide band uniforms and music stand pelmets for the school's Big Band and Swing Band run by Mr. Lewis and Mr. Taylor. The school wants to make an special impact at this year's North West Music for Youth Festival and hope to win through to the Grand Final in London. The cost is about £2,000.

(2) To pay for the new permanent balcony in the Main Hall. Construction has now been completed (click here). This will provide a safe place to control the audio-visual equipment used in the school's stage productions, such as at this year's fantastic show, Guys and Dolls! It will also create cupboards below for the storage of chairs, tables and musical equipment. The cost is about £9,000.

HOW DO WE DO THIS?

The PTA organises a variety of activities during the course of the academic year, each of which raises valuable funds. Activities can vary from year to year, but regulars on the PTA calendar include:

Car Boot Sales (indoor and outdoor):

These ever-popular and successful sales are held two or three times a year in the School car parks and halls. Keep your eyes open for details of the next event, and remember to come along and support your School. Or why not take a pitch yourself and sell on all your unwanted goods?

Year 7 Disco:

The first PTA Year 7 Disco was run jointly with the World Challenge Students on 2nd December 2010 and was a tremendous success, with over 95% of the year attending and several positive comments from the pupils at School the next day. The profits were split with the World Challenge Students, who supported the event by selling tickets and encouraging dancing! It is hoped the event will be repeated next academic year, with perhaps a second event for Year 8? Watch this space!

Spring Raffle:

A raffle is held every spring to boost the PTA funds. Anyone can buy a ticket, and the cash prizes are a real incentive, so please support the School by purchasing as many tickets as possible this year.

SGS Box Office:

A wonderful opportunity to book discounted tickets to shows at various Manchester theatres and concert halls. We are able to do this through booking as a group and avoiding the booking fees. Click here for details of the latest show!

Additionally, the PTA runs its own lottery - the SGS 1200 Club. Click here for full details and information on how to join.
