Andy Hindle Cup 2010

Months of rigorous preparation saw the senior rugby squad play in the annual meeting with Altrincham Grammar School at the Heywood Road stadium.

Team coach Mr. Crampton was keen to win this annual fixture after some painful past defeats. The team was more determined than ever this year after raising a substantial amount of money for the Wooden Spoon Foundation, a children's charity founded in 1983 that is dedicated to helping underprivileged children and young people all over the UK and Ireland to live happier, richer lives.

We are delighted to tell you that Sale Grammar School were the victors this year with a closely contested 15-7 score line.

Altrincham piled the pressure on Sale early on missing a penalty and scoring a try. Sale went on the attack with Jack Yarrow on hand to convert a penalty in the dying moments of the first half to keep Sale's hopes alive. Coach Crampton delivered an inspirational half time team talk.

Connor Shiels' skilful off load to Sale's ferocious centre, Doug Whyley, saw Sale edge ahead in the second half. Buoyed by their success, Sale's tenacious hooker, Aaron Shaw, lead the charge against the Altrincham pack.

Winning a scrum, the space opened up for Chris Finn who capitalised with a mesmerising run across the wing to score in the corner. It seemed that Altrincham were finished, but one last chance presented itself to the opposition as Sale's industrious back rower, Luke Maitra, was instrumental in stopping a late try.

Mr. Crampton was very proud of his boys and commented "Winning this game means so much to me and the players. It sets the standard for the next crop of Sale warriors!"
