Adult Learning Week - 2009
Three evenings in June saw a distinctly different type of student at Sale Grammar School. Pens and notepads in hand, a large group of adults entered the school to participate in some extra-curricular activities. As part of the national Adult Learning Week initiative, staff at the school had volunteered their time to arrange very successful ‘Be Inspired' learning evenings.

The event was designed to offer opportunities for parents and friends of Sale Grammar, and members of the local community, to learn a new skill and be creative in one of the many short courses on offer.
Adult students were tempted by a variety of taster sessions on offer, from creative canvases, sculptural ceramics through to photographic manipulation.
Event co-ordinator, Mrs. Bedford, said "Tonight has been about opening our doors even wider to local people. It has been a fantastic success, thoroughly enjoyed by those who attended and the staff responsible for delivering the courses."
Family Learning
Our Family Learning Initiative extends Sale Grammar's current community programme and develops our links with local primary schools. The aim of the programme is to offer families the opportunity to engage with their children's education and to promote intergenerational learning. Family members could be parents, carers, siblings or grandparents.

At Broadheath Primary School eight Year 5 pupils and one of their family members were given the opportunity to work with Sale Grammar's ceramic specialists. Pupils and one of their family members each created ‘mini me' clay heads and figures using basic clay modelling techniques.

At Sale Grammar, a ceramic workshop was held for Year 7 students and a family member. Families were able to spend quality time together by learning how to make and decorate a basic coil pot. Participants found the experience enjoyable and fun.
Brentwood Partnership
Our long running partnership with Brentwood School is a well established collaboration providing an inclusive framework for studying the Visual Arts. Students from both schools develop their social and communication skills through exploration of the visual and tactile qualities of a range of materials.
