Community Engagement

Welcome to our community pages.

Sale Grammar School is committed to delivering a diverse and creative range of learning opportunities for schools and wider community groups through its extensive Community Engagement Programme. The school enjoys well-established links with local pre-school providers, primary and secondary schools, higher education providers, local employers, business and voluntary organisations.

The school is open from 8am -10pm, 50 weeks a year. Outside normal school hours, school facilities are available for community use and we provide an extensive, high quality programme of holiday activities, open to learners from our own and other local schools. As part of the Transition Programme we deliver Science, Art and Design and Food Technology workshops for groups of KS2 students and provide a specialist equipment loan facility.

During the Summer holidays 2011 we will be holding a Visual Arts Extravaganza, a Sport Camp and Samba workshops for Key Stage 2 students and a Ceramics Workshop for gifted and talented young artists embarking on their GCSE Art and Design course.
Involvement in community engagement initiatives is integral to the learning experience on offer to all students at SGS. Through active involvement in community based initiatives we aim to raise student's awareness of social and cultural diversity and encourage them to become more thoughtful and responsibly citizens.

Academy Trust Status

In January 2010 the Sale Grammar School Trust was formed in partnership with high profile national and international organisations who will work with the school to support its development. Each partner organisation is represented by a trustee who acts as a link in working with the school and who ensures that the educational vision and objects of the Trust are maintained.

The trustees are from the arts charity 'Lime', the University Hospital South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester Metropolitan University, the Museum of Science and Industry and the Findel plc.

This is an exciting venture for the school and its partners and we believe that it has significant potential for all of the participating organisations.

Our Trust Partners

Lime

Lime is an award-winning arts organisation that uses creative activity to impact on individual health, bringing culture and the arts into Greater Manchester's healthcare system via the work of a multi-disciplined group of professional artists. The school has a long standing link with Lime through its visual arts specialism and students have undertaken many valuable projects in the health sector.

University Hospital South Manchester (UHSM)

The UHSM is a major acute teaching hospital trust providing services for adults and children at Wythenshawe Hospital and Withington Community Hospital (the latter owned by Manchester PCT). The Trust is recognised as a centre of clinical excellence and provides district general hospital services and specialist tertiary services to the local community.

Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU)

Manchester Metropolitan University is the fifth most popular university in the country. MMU boasts a history of achievement to rival many more-established institutions. The University is an international leader in clothing design and technology and is one of the largest providers of science, engineering and technology education in the UK. 80% of MMU's trained health professionals including nurses, health visitors, health scientists and dental technicians go on to work in the health services in the North West. MMU is one of the largest creative communities in the UK, with over 8,000 students and staff involved in cultural production in the region. The school has strong links with MMU through initial teacher training and work in the arts.

Manchester Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI)

Located on the historic site of the world's oldest surviving passenger railway station, housed in five listed buildings, MOSI's amazing galleries and outstanding collections tell the story of Manchester's scientific and industrial past. MOSI's mission is to make science and industry inspirational, highlighting our region's rich and continuing contribution. The school has already worked with MOSI on science in education projects.

Findel PLC
