Miss Hall joins in on the hand washing fun

Hospital Hand Wash

A group of Sixth Form Performing Arts students, accompanied by Mr. Townsend and Miss Hall, have taken part in the ‘Great Hospital Hand Wash' at the University Hospital South Manchester, one of the school's proposed Trust Status partners.

The hospital staged a world record hand washing attempt with hospital staff and patients joining members of the public as the old Black Lace classic ‘Superman' was reworked into ‘Super Hands', with suitable words taken from the seven point Hand Hygiene Code.

Wythenshawe MP Paul Goggins rushed from a meeting to join in, and said the initiative demonstrated a hospital in tune with the community it serves.

The event was organized to stress the importance of cleanliness, especially in hospitals and raise awareness of the facilities hospitals now provide.

Chief Nurse Mandy Bailey spoke to the crowd about the importance of good hand washing hygiene. "Infection prevention is everyone's responsibility and the initiative was all about getting over a serious message in a fun way. Judging by everyone's enthusiasm I believe we did just that."

Local television crews turned up to film the event for the evening news and a full length version of the footage is available below.
