Miss Eeles to visit our Afritwin link schools
To strengthen our links with our Cape Town partner schools, geography teacher Miss Eeles will be flying out to South Africa to meet with students and teachers from Bosmansdam and Cravenby High Schools. The trip, funded by the British Council, will involve strengthening communication and creating and developing further opportunities for joint curriculum projects which we hope will enhance our students' awareness of other countries and cultures. Afri Group students at SGS have produced personal portfolios for our corresponding South African groups, containing information on themselves, their interests, our school and community and our country. The exchange of portfolios will allow our afri groups to become familiar with each other's lifestyles and environments through personal links.

Recent Projects
World Cup 2010/Olympics 2012 Project
In Geography several Year 7 classes have been involved in a pilot project to learn about the 2012 Olympics and its effects on the London and our country as a whole. This culuminated in students producing a resource on the 2012 Olympics for our Cape Town partner schools to learn this event themselves. In return students in our link schools have produced some work, including a DVD on the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which will allow our students to discover the impacts on South Africa and Cape Town of this sporting event. This was a very successful initiative which we hope will continue into 2010 and beyond. Year 7 classes have also succesfully produced brochures on Manchester for students in Cape Town to learn about our own city.
Pen Pal Letters
In English students have enjoyed writing the pen pal letters to fellow students in South Africa and loved the idea of introducing themselves to pupils learning on a different continent. We hope in the long term, once this activity becomes established, that it will allow students to appreciate the similarities and differences between our cultures and we hope that these pen pal relationships will continue throughout their time at Sale Grammar School.
