Malham Tarn

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are organising a visit to Malham Tarn Field Studies Centre to support the A2 studies within Biology. In order to be able to offer all students a chance to attend we plan to run two trips, one on Tuesday 29th June and another on Wednesday 30th June 2010. Malham Tarn Field Studies Centre is situated in a National Nature Reserve within walking distance of famous limestone features and varied biological habitats.

We will carry out fieldwork to measure the abundance of different species in at least one habitat. The data gathered can be analysed when we return to school. The particular habitat we are to study has yet to be confirmed but will involve either looking at various plant species along a line transect, or comparing the distribution of invertebrates in a stream. This is an enjoyable and beneficial trip for students, who will gain valuable experience of the methods used in population biology.

Students will travel to the Field Centre by Coach and will be accompanied throughout the day by members of staff from Sale Grammar School. In addition they will be supervised by trained staff from the Field Centre during practical activities.

Letters are in the Adobe PDF format. If you do not have the Adobe Acrobat PDF reader you can download it from here.
