Last school year GCSE Astronomy was offered as an additional qualification to Sale Grammar School students in Year 9 who were identified by the school as 'Gifted and Talented.' These dedicated students studied the subject in their own time after school, guided by staff from the Physics Department.
The course ran for only one year, after which they sat the exam alongside our Year 11 students in June. The results achieved by the students were outstanding. Out of 12 Year 9 students sitting the exam, 8 gained an A* grade, 2 gained A, 1 gained B and 1 gained C.
The high quality of the coursework and the fantastic GCSE grades achieved by such a young cohort of students attracted the attention of both local newspapers and the production team at 'Channel M' who visited school to record our students' successes for their news channel.
