West Side Story Information Pages

The Performing Arts Department is delighted to invite you to the Sale Grammar School production of ‘West Side Story'.

Students have been working tirelessly since September on what is arguably the most challenging musical of the Twentieth Century, scheduled for performance between Monday 6th and Wednesday 8th February 2012.

Performances on Monday 6th and Wednesday 8th commence at 7.00pm with an approximate finish time of 9.45pm. There are two performances on Tuesday 7th at 4.00pm and 7.30pm with finishing times of 6.30pm and 10.15pm retrospectively.

Students in Years 7 and 8 do not have to stay in school for the duration of each performance but we encourage all performers to stay until the end so they can take their curtain call. Please find below the detailed times that each form group must be in school.

Costume

Students have already been asked to organise their costumes for the performance but we would like to take this opportunity to clarify exactly what is required.

• Year 7 Girls - Plain black shoe string vest top only; skirt to be provided by school.
• Year 7 Boys - Plain round necked t-shirt in pastel shades of yellow, orange, blue or white; blue jeans; dark canvas pumps.
• Year 8 Jets - A plain blue t-shirt (round necked or collared); blue jeans; white canvas pumps.
• Year 8 Sharks - A plain red t- shirt (round necked or collared); blue jeans; white canvas pumps.

Dress Rehearsal Times

To ensure our usual high standards of performance there will be Dress Rehearsals for all students every day during our final week of preparation. We cannot emphasise enough how important it is that students commit to these additional rehearsals which provide a valuable opportunity to work with the live orchestra and we ask that you make the necessary arrangements for your child's safe transport home. Please check the following Rehearsal Schedule carefully to see when your child is required with their costume.

Tickets Sales

Due to the high royalties tickets are priced at £7.50 for evening performances and £5.00 for the Matinee performance on Tuesday 7th February. Children under 5 years of age are free but no seat will be available. Tickets can only be purchased via ParentPay and are on sale now. Tickets will normally sell out very quickly so we encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment.

Once you have paid for your tickets you will be issued with a confirmation email from ParentPay that contains the date of performance. This email is your proof of purchase and can only be used to claim your tickets. Unlike in previous years, seats will be allocated on arrival so we ask that you arrive in good time. Should you require any access requirements (i.e. wheelchair space) we ask that you contact school in advance to make the necessary arrangements.

Should you require any additional information please contact one of the production team, Mrs Merron or Mr Townsend on 0161 973 3217 extension 6273.
