Future Chef Competition 2019

Posted on: November 4th 2019

In October 2019 we held school heats for the Future Chef competition, where students had to produce a main course for 2 people for a budget of £5.  Mrs Conley and Mrs Coverley judged the entries and we had a Year 9 and a Year 8 student that were selected to go through to the local heats.

The local heats were held at Trafford College in Altrincham in November 2019.  The students had a fabulous experience producing 2 courses on a budget of £7 in the professional kitchens.  They were supported and judged by industry professionals, including chefs from HIT (Hospitality Industry Training), Hotel Indigo and Gather & Gather contract caterers.  The judges were very impressed with the standard and skills shown from all competitors and were particularly impressed with the beetroot risotto from Sam and the fig and grape sauce by Alice.  Unfortunately we didn’t get through to the next stage of the competition, but they were very keen to see our students again next year, especially with them being so young.  So any budding chefs out there, get practising your dishes for heats in September 2020.

The dishes that our students produced were:

Chicken with grape and fig sauce, sweet potato mash and green beans served with Sticky toffee pudding

Pan fried Hake with beetroot & horseradish risotto served with Cranachan
