Twenty lucky Year 8 students attended a national STEM event at Manchester Warehouse; the day comprised of 4 activities focused on different areas of Technology and provided a real insight into a breadth of technology careers.  Students demonstrated team work, communication and creativity- all important skills in the technology sector.

The students loved using the Ozobots- commanding their own robots using coloured patterns; they even went on to use the Ozobot to perform a special task for a fictitious elderly person.

The second session was super challenging and involved cracking multiple codes.  Teams then made a torch and took turns to guess the wording spelt out via Morse code.

Students were also given the chance to listen to industry experts and ask them questions about their careers.

Finally they were given some resources in the STEM Den and asked to re-design a product we use in daily life. One of our student groups made a hover speaker system and another a transparent roll up TV. All great ideas which may possibly appear sometime in the future!

One of our students even won the overall prize for the day for his level of engagement and the standard of his questions - winning an Amazon Echo speaker!

The event was organised by Engineering Development Trust which provided certificates for our students becoming ‘Industrial Cadets’ a recognised level of participation. Throughout the day there were spot prizes sponsored by Tata Consultancy Services and Lloyds Banking Group.
