Subjects on Offer
The Sixth Form at Sale Grammar School offers an academic rather than vocational curriculum.
This pathway through further education suits most of our students in Year 11 and attracts a significant number of students from other schools in the local area.
Our curriculum is designed to enable students to choose a programme of study reflecting their individual interests and aspirations. We offer an extensive range of A-Level courses as shown below.
Students are taught for 9 one hour lessons per subject over a two week timetable. Private study time is also allocated to allow students to manage the wider reading and independent learning tasks demanded of A-Level students.
To enter into Year 12, students must achieve a minimum Attainment 8 score of 60 and a minimum grade 5 at GCSE in English Language and Mathematics.
In addition, all students must have at least a grade 6 in the subjects they wish to study. Where students have not taken the appropriate GCSE course, overall performance at GCSE is considered.
Students in Year 12 must select three subjects to study at A-Level and are allowed to take a fourth subject to AS should they wish.
As an example, the following subjects are currently being taught in Years 12 and 13.
- Art and Design
- Business Studies
- Drama and Theatre
- English Language
- English Literature
- Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish)
- Government and Politics
- Further Mathematics
- Physical Education
- Product Design
- Religious Studies
All Sixth Form students have the opportunity to follow an Academic Enrichment course such as Core Maths, EPQ or Perspectives on Science. Students also participate in a range of Personal Enrichment activities and and are encouraged to organise their own Community Volunteering placements.
