Subjects on Offer
The Sixth Form at Sale Grammar School offers an academic rather than vocational curriculum.
This pathway through further education suits most of our students in Year 11 and attracts a significant number of students from other schools in the local area.
Our curriculum is designed to enable students to choose a programme of study reflecting their individual interests and aspirations. We offer an extensive range of Advanced Level courses as shown below.
Students are taught for 9 one hour lessons per subject over a two week timetable. Private study time is also allocated to allow students to manage the wider reading and independent learning tasks demanded of A Level students.
To enter into Year 12, students must achieve a minimum of 5 full course GCSE passes, 2 of which must be at least Grade A and 3 at least Grade B (short courses will not be counted) and achieve a minimum Grade 5 at GCSE in English Language and Mathematics.
In addition, all students must have a minimum Grade B at GCSE to follow chosen courses. Where students have not taken the appropriate GCSE course, overall performance at GCSE is considered.
Students in Year 12 select a combination of a minimum of three subjects from the following:
- Art and Design
- Business Studies
- Drama and Theatre
- English Language
- English Literature
- Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish)
- Government and Politics
- Core Mathematics
- Further Mathematics
- Physical Education
- Product Design
- Religious Studies
All Sixth Form students have the opportunity to follow an Academic Enrichment course such as Core Maths, EPQ or Perspectives on Science. Students also participate in a range of Personal Enrichment activities and and are encouraged to organise their own Community Volunteering placements.
