Starting School in September

THE FIRST DAY

Year 7 students will start school on Wednesday 4th September, we will confirm the start time in due course. Students will need to come into school via the Student Services entrance.

When students do arrive, they will initially spend time with their form group and Form Tutor. The first day will include getting-to-know-you activities and students will be given their timetable. Later in the day they will begin their timetabled lessons.

Things to remember:

  • Students should be in their full Sale Grammar School uniform.
  • It is useful for students to have their rucksack and pencil case for when their Form Tutor discusses what equipment they will need at school.
  • Students will not need to bring their PE kit.
  • We hope that every student will purchase lunch from the Refectory on this day, so that they are aware of the options available, as well as the procedure for purchasing lunch. Please ensure that your child has funds on the dinner money section of your ParentPay account. If you are having difficulties arranging this, then please do not hesitate to contact the school. Of course, if you prefer, your child may bring a packed lunch on this day, and will still eat with the rest of the year group in the Refectory.

THE FIRST FEW WEEKS

Your child will be provided with a booklet full of hints and tips for surviving their first few weeks at Sale Grammar School. To help them along, homework will be introduced in a staggered fashion so that they don’t feel swamped with work and can focus on getting used to the new environment, making friends, travelling to school and getting themselves organised. In addition, Year 7 students will have a slightly earlier lunch than the rest of the school.
