Two of our A Level Religious Education students have taken part in the Holocaust Educational Trust's ‘Lessons from Auschwitz’ Project.

The key focus of the project was a visit to the former Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz- Birkenau, which is situated in Poland.  The students prepared for the visit with a seminar where they examined pre-war Jewish life, heard a Holocaust survivor share their testimony and discussed the unique issues of preparing for a Holocaust-related site visit.

After the visit, a further seminar allowed them the time to reflect on the visit, explore the contemporary relevance of the Holocaust and plan how they could share what they had learnt with other Sale Grammar School students.  The students are now preparing to visit Year 9 RE classes to tell them about their experiences and ask for their help in designing a memorial for display in the RE department.
