National Diversity Week

Posted on: July 8th 2016

National Diversity Week (20th – 24th June), was widely celebrated within our school community, raising awareness for not only multiculturalism, but also for the LGBT community. As a school community, we are a very respectful and supportive group of young adults and also very accepting of diversity.

To show our support, rainbow flags were hung in various places in school, posters were read as students made their way to their next lesson, wristbands and badges were sold etc. In addition to that, Years 7 & 8 were responsible for the individual contributions to the rainbow wall. The rainbow wall is made up of numerous statements supporting why we should accept diversity and multiculturalism and others explaining how they improve our experiences in school and within the community. Together, these colourful post- it notes make the simple yet effective rainbow wall. It just goes to show our positivity and the difference we can make together, united and as one. There are a few statements taken from the wall below.

"The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people. Strength lies in the differences not the similarities."

"Everybody should be equal because it doesn't matter what gender, race, background, sexuality, nationality or religion you are, inside we are the same. So why discriminate?"

"I like diversity because I can be myself."
