Subject Information for 2021 Applicants

Sixth Form Information Evening

Due to the current circumstances, our traditional Sixth Form Information Evening is unable to take place in its usual format.  Each subject however, has created a presentation to provide you with the information you may need in order to decide between subjects.  We hope you find them both enjoyable and informative.

Sixth Form

The Sixth Form at Sale Grammar School offers an academic rather than vocational curriculum.

This pathway through Further Education suits most of our students in Year 11 and attracts a significant number of students from other schools in the local area.

Our curriculum is designed to enable students to choose a programme of study reflecting their individual interests and aspirations. We offer an extensive range of A-Level courses as shown below.

Students are taught for 9 one hour lessons per subject over a two week timetable.  Private study time is also allocated to allow students to manage the wider reading and independent learning tasks demanded of A-Level students.

Subjects

To enter into Year 12, students must achieve a minimum Attainment 8 score of 60 and a minimum grade 5 at GCSE in English Language and Mathematics.

In addition, all students must have at least a grade 6 in the subjects they wish to study. Where students have not taken the appropriate GCSE course, overall performance at GCSE is considered.

Students in Year 12 must select three subjects to study at A-Level and are allowed to take a fourth subject to AS, should they wish to do so.
