Year 12 Issues Day

Issues Days are designed to complement and extend the Personal, Social and Health Education our Sixth Form students gain through their tutorial sessions, assemblies and their core options.

The focus of the upcoming November Issues Day for Year 12 is Careers Information, Education and Guidance.

Format of the Day

Normal timetables are suspended for the day. 

All students will attend a session with Bright Futures in the Main Hall for Periods 1 and 2.

For the remaining three sessions, students are able to select from the choices below.   We will do our best to allocate students to their preferred sessions however please be aware that some sessions may be limited by numbers.  Please select six sessions, in order of preference, so that we are aware of your back up choices if needed.

Session

1.

YMHM: A session with the charity Young Mental Health Matters, whose aim is to provide a voice to fix mental health.

2.

A Star Future: Undergraduate opportunities abroad and applying to European universities.

3.

Why Uni?: Looking at what university has to offer and student life with ambassadors from the University of Leicester.

4.

Study Skills & Work Life Balance: A session with an ambassador from LJMU.

5.

Alternatives to university: An overview of alternatives and apprenticeships run by a careers officer.

6.

Total People: Apprenticeship based learning, functional skills and vocational programmes.

7.

UA92: UA92 degrees are designed to accelerate careers in the world of media, business, sport, computer science – connections to the Class of 92, and backed by respected academic pioneers at Lancaster University.

8.

Grant Thornton: Career opportunities at Grant Thornton. It is one of the largest professional services firms - accounting and consulting etc

9.

Love Leeds (Arts & Humanities): An insight into Arts and Humanities degrees with Dr Sarah Harvey Richardson.

10.

English & Theatre: Degrees and careers linked to English Literature, English Language, Creative writing and Performance. Dr Abby Bentham from the University of Salford will be delivering a voice acting workshop.

11.

A Future in Engineering: Exploring the world of Engineering, with Newcastle University.

12.

Law: A session on studying Law with an academic from the University of Huddersfield.

13.

Breaking into the Media: Degrees and career opportunities in television and radio (with the University of Salford)

14.

Professional Podcast: In a 2 hour practical session – make a professional podcast on a subject of your choice using a mobile media studio (with the University of Salford)

15.

Debate with Newcastle University: Debating issues linked to Humanities and the Social Sciences.

16.

Medical Ethical Case Studies: An interactive session with Newcastle University.

17.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) - Doctors Without Borders

An exciting and inspirational talk with Dr Shama Khan who has worked in both South Sudan and Yemen with MSF.

18.

Starting Your Health Career: Making the most of Year 12 (with the University of Leeds).

19.

Health Careers – Developing Interview Skills: A practical session with the University of Leeds.

20.

Oxbridge: Applying to Oxford and Cambridge – with an ambassador from Mansfield College, Oxford.

21.

MAP: Information on the University of Manchester’s widening participation scheme - the Manchester Access Programme.
